Our Vision
To be the pre-eminent organization of Multiple Sclerosis health care professionals whose goal is to improve the lives of those affected by multiple sclerosis.
Our Mission
The Mission of the CMSC is to:
- Develop and sustain successful models of care to address the disease spectrum of multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Stimulate and facilitate research in the field of multiple sclerosis.
- Develop mechanisms with which to share information and knowledge among CMSC members and all those affected by MS
- Influence the provision of the best in health care delivery.in multiple sclerosis and related disorders
- Partner with other entities to facilitate the mission as stated above
Our Goals
Valuable work continues to be done each year by the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Governors, the administrative staff, Committees, Project Leaders, and other key members of the CMSC. Some new goals for the coming year include:
- Strengthening the organizational structure and financial base.
- Improving connection and involvement of our interdisciplinary membership (especially new members, rehabilitation professionals, and the VA Special Interest Group, all emerging bodies within the Consortium).
- Soliciting a variety of new CMSC projects which advance our mission, in the areas of clinical care, education, and research.
- Building external relations with sponsors, partners, and other professional organizations, who have mutual or supportive mission statements.
- Developing an international presence, to broaden the base of contacts, for the benefit of our health care members and their patients.
- Clarifying our role in advocacy, and methods to influence health care policy/delivery.
- Disseminating information about Multiple Sclerosis care throughout the world.
- Serving as a role model for professional organizations serving those with chronic illness for disability.
Our History
Organized in 1986 under the direction of neurologists dedicated to clinical care of MS, the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) has evolved into a multi-disciplinary organization providing a team approach to MS care and a network for all health care professionals and related specialists in the care of persons with MS. Since 1986, the CMSC has grown rapidly. With over 250 member centers in the United States and Canada, represents over 12,000 health care professionals worldwide who provide care for more than 250,000 individuals with MS and their families.
Our Activities
CMSC provides leadership in clinical research and education; develops vehicles to share information and knowledge among members; disseminates information to the health care community and to persons affected by Multiple Sclerosis; and develops and implements mechanisms to influence health care delivery. The CMSC is approved as a provider of continuing education to physicians, nursing professionals, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and psychologists and its accredited activities have educated thousands of healthcare professionals about the spectrum of needs in MS.
